The Master of Science in Health Science is offered with two specializations:  Health Care Administration and Educator. The Master of Science in Health Sciences with a Health Care Administration specialization will prepare you to: administer, develop, and implement health education programs; understand current health issues; and master the skills and knowledge required for leadership in health education. Upon graduation, you may function as a health care administrator in a variety of settings, both public and private. The Master of Science in Health Sciences with a Health Education specialization will prepare you to: administer, develop, and implement health education programs; understand current health issues; and master the skills and knowledge required for leadership in health education. Upon graduation, you may function as a community-health educator in a variety of settings, both public and private. US University’s MSN/FNP program is designed for nurses who hold a bachelor’s degree and seek the continuing education required for obtaining a license to practice in conjunction with a physician. The degree can be completed within 24 months and includes a mix of coursework and clinical practice hours that you arrange to complement your academic studies.

Throughout the course of your studies you will focus on developing the skills needed to assume the interrelated roles of a Nurse Practitioner: clinician, teacher, researcher, advocate, consultant, change agent, collaborator, and leader/manager of systems.

Course Delivery:

The College of Nursing has implemented new instructional strategies to provide an interactive, engaged curriculum for our face-to-face students using a hybrid model. Courses will utilize real-time face-to-face instruction, supplemented with face-to-face instruction via web conference, phone conference, and/or live chats with fellow students and faculty.  Students may work as teams with peers and mentors, participate in demonstrations, interact with computer-simulated patients, and actively examine case studies.  Courses will include online and face-to-face lectures, discussions, social networking, viewing video’s, examining evidence, readings, and/or other activities needed to prepare for class.

Prepare for the Family Nurse Practitioner Program with your Entry-Level Master of Science in Nursing

The Entry Level Master’s, post-baccalaureate program embraces a nursing conceptual framework based on the person, health/illness, the environment and professional nursing and is grounded in the biological, psycho-social and nursing sciences. The philosophy of the Program further defines beliefs about the nursing process and teaching/learning and values students who bring their unique learning abilities, life experiences, goals, responsibilities and support systems to the educational experience.

United States University is approved by the Board of Registered Nursing to offer an Entry Level Masters (ELM) Accelerated Bachelor of Science in nursing program.   The ELM/ABSN is designed for students who have a minimum of a previous bachelor’s degree in a discipline other than nursing.  Graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN in preparation for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California after which they will be eligible to apply for graduate programs of study in nursing.

The RN to BSN program is designed for the Associate Degree nurse to build on the leadership and management skills introduced in previous nursing programs while expanding the art and science of nursing into the baccalaureate level.  The Institute of Medicine in their 2010 report, Future of Nursing, projected that 80% of clinical nurses in Magnet facilities should be baccalaureate prepared by 2020.  This goal has been embraced across the United States and is providing the impetus for many practicing nurses to return for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.

Entry Options:


There are two entry options for this degree program.  The first entry option is for the nursing student or registered nurse who wants to apply to the RN to BSN program but has not completed all of the prerequisites with an earned minimum grade of a C in each course.  This option allows students to complete one or more of the prerequisite courses at USU and apply for financial aid.  Students admitted to the RN to BSN who are missing prerequisite courses will be admitted into the Pre-BSN option and will be moved into the next available cohort upon completion of the prerequisite courses and all admission requirements and
submission of an “Admission to the Cohort” form.

Pathways for Registered Nurses with diplomas, associate’s degrees, or an RN with bachelor’s degrees in non-nursing fields

Have a valid, unrestricted, unencumbered RN license from the US
Cumulative GPA of 2.0 (for students who have earned a bachelor or associate’s degree).

Scheduling information is available at the University for the Following Tests: California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST), California Subject Examination of Teachers (CSET), and the Reading Instruction Competence Assessment (RICA).
